May: Catching Up

This should be quick. I’m so far behind on committing to my monthly goals (in writing). I still have a 30 day challenge for myself though, so I’ll catch you up quickly. I have a half marathon coming up in June, the 21st to be precise. I ran this last year and somehow managed to commit myself to it again this year. At the start of this challenge (and still now) I didn’t feel very good about my prospects of even finishing let alone beating last year’s mark. So obviously for May I have an explicit running goal and sort of an implicit goal that goes along with it.

With a bit of quick analysis of my Runkeeper statistics it was pretty plain to see that my training for last year’s version of the Garry Bjorklund half marathon contributed to the month where I logged the most miles. For May my goal is to have a higher month, my highest total ever in a calendar month. So I set a goal using the Runkeeper functionality. From May 1 through May 31 I set the bar at 60 miles.

Obviously my implicit goal is to not get hurt while doing all of this. If I accomplish the 60 miles but put myself in a position where I can’t follow through in June then all that running is for naught.

Since I’m posting so late into my goal I’ll throw in a little hint as well, as long as I can manage to stay healthy I should have no problem sprinting past that mark.
