Every year I try to commit to a number of posts in a given period of time in order to try to motivate myself into following through. Every year I fail. That statement alone makes me think I should make a 30 day challenge out of this particular (potential) habit, but the idea I keep coming back to doesn’t translate well into that timeframe. In order to do enough to necessitate a challenge basically means that upfront I know that it would be at a pace that I couldn’t continue throughout the remainder of the year, or just going forward since I don’t think this should be constrained to only being for 2014.
The plan as it currently exists in my head is to have a post queued up, scheduled, written on each day of the month that ends in a 5. So the 5th, 15th, 25th and any 35ths that may occur. Maybe I’ll even get sneaky and throw out a post on the 105th day of the year. (As an aside: Anybody who knows me knows that I just threw out that snarky comment and then actually looked to see what day that was, it’s April 15th, so I will in fact plan on posting that day, anyway.) I may sprinkle in some other randomness as well, since I generally have a lot of thoughts, some of which might even translate well into being written down.
This schedule lends well to reporting on my monthly and quarterly goals. In general the structure will look something like a post reviewing the previous month, successful or not, on each 5th and on each 25th a post to introduce what I’ve decided for the following month. That leaves the 15th as kind of a crapshoot. I never know what I’m going to get, so that should be fun. I have a few thoughts and ideas jotted down, but until February 15th I’m not sure what that’s going to be at this point.
For now I’ll just focus on getting some words down to explain my plan around February. It’s already expanded a bit since I mentioned it back in the first quarter preview.
